By using FCPL Unplugged!, you are agreeing to all Terms and Conditions.

FCPL Unplugged! provides patrons with  "As Is" and "As Available" filtered Internet access from their personal laptops during Library hours.  Please report any service outages to Library staff at the Information Desk.

FCPL Unplugged! Quick Facts

  1.  Patrons will be offered FILTERED Internet access only when using the FCPL Unplugged! Internet access service via their personal laptops or other compatible devices. Adult patrons can obtain unfiltered Internet access via the Library-owned patron computers.

  2. Use of the FCPL Unplugged! service is "As Is" with the instructions provided. The Library cannot accept the liability of touching any personal laptops or other non-Library-owned devices nor adjusting their settings.

  3. FCPL Unplugged! use is "As Is" and "As Available" during Library hours. Please report any service outages; however, because the FCPL Unplugged! service is a non-mission-critical service, technical support may not be immediately available.  Issues will generally be addressed as a medium priority item during the hours of 9am to 5pm Monday through Friday.

  4. Security of your hardware and data are your responsibility. When using any network connection, it is highly recommended that you do not enable file or print sharing and that you install and maintain up-to-date anti-virus and anti-spyware software.

  5. The FCPL Unplugged! service does not support all Internet features.  Web browsing is available, and many web mail services may be used via FCPL Unplugged!  Directions for setting up your browser to use web mail services can be found here.  However, use of email clients such as Microsoft Outlook or Eudora is not available.

  6. In order to access the Internet or any other networked resources via the FCPL Unplugged! service, you must first:

    • Own a compatible laptop or other compatible networked device.  For wireless access, a wireless network interface card operating on one of the standards 802.11a/b/g is required. Note: Bluetooth is not supported.

    • Provide your own network patch cable if accessing FCPL Unplugged! via a wired connection.

    • Provide your own compatible headphones if planning to use audio files.

    • Bring a charged battery or sit in a location where power is immediately accessible.

    • Be located within signal range of a FCPL Unplugged! Wireless Access Point or have your laptop's network cable plugged into a designated FCPL Unplugged! wired port (located near a "Plug Into FCPL Unplugged!" sign).

    • Configure your laptop or other device for use with FCPL Unplugged!, connect to the network, and open your Internet browser as outlined in the FCPL Unplugged! help pages. Note: you will not be able to connect to the network unless your network cable is plugged into a designated port or you are located within FCPL Unplugged! wireless signal range.

    • Accept the security certificate that the Library's system sends to your browser. (You may only need to do this the first time you use FCPL Unplugged!)

    • Accept the usage Terms and Conditions outlined in the Forsyth County Public Library Wireless/Wired Internet Access policy.

    • Login to the FCPL Unplugged! service using a Library barcode and PIN.
